Zenker Springform with Lid, Enamel, 10-Inch

Das ist aber sehr gut

4.5 stars

For those who haven’t been exposed to the many joys of German cookware quality, here’s a good intro. It’s basic and solid, a nice springform baker that makes your cakes for you, almost. Good edge to catch extras, reversible for serving, nice crisp construction. But don’t try to carry it via the handle! Be wise and just hold from below. Achtung.

I speak Doitch so the German instructions were no issue, but even if you don’t there’s not much to know. These things explain themselves; bake once with a springform and you’re good to go.

My only niggle here is that there is some teflon. I got this mainly because it said it had an “enamel coating”, called “diamond-enamel” auf Deutsch, so I figured, “Excellent! Those wise German engineers have made a better teflon!” And they may have, but this says there’s teflon in it too. Bummer, as that stuff is not very healthy; recent research shows almost all of us now have a large amount in our bloodstreams,…

Nice. Pricey.

My first springform pan. Despite the lack of English text on the box, not too hard to figure out. High quality materials for the pan itself, while the lid is… well, just a lid. Kinda like the Wilton cake carrier, but that seemed better constructed. The handle is black on mine… I noticed some got a blue handle. The springform part of the set works great. The spring part works well, nice and smooth, easy to lift off a baked cake. Also, grips the bottom piece quite well. No leaking with my first attempt. The bottom piece is made of sturdy material, supposedly okay to use a knife on (to cut the cake; though I don’t like using metal on teflon, this seems more durable than most).

10″ diameter. A single cake mix baked in this makes a nice, tall round cake, which looks great when it’s done.

Negatives:

Teflon. It’s in there. Bad stuff.

Lid latching to base: I didn’t have any trouble with this, though other reviews have mentioned it…

First encounter with a springform pan and it’s not bad

I chose this product because my wife might like the springform pan much. My wife has baked a cake once in a while, however, she did not know about a springform pan in general (For your information, my wife and I were not raised in US. We grew up in the country where baking a cake is a rare event). She only used a cake case from a company like Tupperware and the case like that is simply a plastic cover for a cake. So, it is no wonder she got so exicted when I gave this product for her to try. She really liked the finish of the Frieling USA Zenker springform pan. It is not a cheap plastic product you can see in a supermarket near you. You can immediately tell that the enamel coating of the springform pan is high quality (non-stick type teflon) and the locking of the pan is pretty tight. However, it did not come with the detailed instructions in English, someone like my wife who never used a type of product like this needed a little time to figure out how to use it. My wife…
