Zenker Layer Cake Slicing Kit

Not as great as described, but you can kind of make it work for a very limited range of what it should if you go out of your way

The different layers of metal aren’t stable, which means as you’re cutting the layers of cake, your guides shift. As such, you wind up with slices that are perhaps more uneven than free-handing it. The one exception to this is the bottom as there’s nowhere for it to collapse. So if you want layers exactly that size, you can slice a layer, remove the cake from the layer, set the cake down and slice another layer, remove the cake from the layer and set it down somewhere else to slice another, and so on….not really what it was supposed to do. It’s also interesting to note that the top and bottom layers are slightly thicker than the middle ones, so if you were trying to slice a whole cake, the layers wouldn’t quite be even anyway. Not unexpectedly, the knife included is flimsy, poor quality, and not very sharp at all, so you wind up squishing the cake a little with the force required to saw even a light spongecake. Overall, I was quite disappointed.

Awesom Cakes

Bought this on a whim when I heard others talking about it on a recipe site and decided to give it a try. Since then I’ve used it to make several differant cakes specially ones that I used a bavarian cream filling on.

They all came out lovely and so professional looking. I’ve always had trouble with slicing layers on cakes and having them come out even – no more with this little gadget. Love the large spatula that comes with it and use it for many things besides the cake like taking pizza of the stone and picking up pie dough to put in the pie pan.

I’ve started using 8″ round cake pans (the ones with higher sides, found in most hobby stores) and that gives me a nice high cake that is easy to slice.

Excellent Bakers Tool

In our house hold, I am “the pie guy” and my wife is “the cake lady.” I bought this cake slicer kit for her. She uses it ALL the time and loves it. One of the few kitchen related things I bought for her in our 29 years of marriage that she was thrilled to receive. I wish I had a picture of the 8 layer red, white, and blue cake that she made for our 4th of July party. It was a masterpiece! I recommend this product highly. It is well designed and sturdy in construction; clean up is a snap and it stores easily. I gave it 5 stars as it clearly exceeds expectations.
